Commercial banks are owned by either a group of people or by a Federal Reserve System member. In addition to providing services to consumers, commercial banks are mostly focused on taking deposits and providing loans to businesses. Such a bank makes money by charging interest on the loans that borrowers take out. The bank will use the money that the customer deposits to provide business loans, auto loans, mortgages, and loans for home repairs.
